What is the BE driver's license and what are the requirements?

To drive with a heavy trailer or caravan behind your car, you need a trailer driving license ( driving license BE ). This applies if the total mass (empty weight + payload) of the combination (car + trailer) is more than 3500 kg or if the trailer itself has a maximum permissible weight of more than 750 kg. The standard car license B is not sufficient. To obtain the driving license BE, you must have a valid car license (driving license B) and be at least 18 years old.

What does a driving course for your trailer license look like?

With us, you have a choice between a 1/2 day course or a day course. Our half-day course teaches you how to drive safely with a trailer, including coupling and uncoupling, special maneuvers, reading registration papers and a CBR exam. The examiner will assess your knowledge of the registration papers and your coupling skills and after a drive of about 35 minutes including uncoupling, you will receive your results!

Are the rates inclusive or exclusive of VAT?

All rates are exclusive of VAT for businesses and inclusive of VAT for individuals. Rates 2023 (price changes reserved).

Do any one-time fees apply when enrolling?

Your registration will include a one-time €35 administrative and registration fee.

What does the daily schedule look like?

During our half-day course, together with our instructor, you will learn to move safely with a trailer in traffic. We cover special operations, such as driving backwards, backing into a curve, hitching and unhitching, and reading registration papers for both the car and the trailer. The course is followed by a CBR exam. The examiner will ask questions about registration papers and review your hitching skills before taking you on an approximately 35-minute drive. After unhitching, you'll receive the results, and the next day you can apply for your trailer license at City Hall.

Is a driving test mandatory?

Yes, for exam guarantee, you must take the mandatory driving test. During this driving test, our instructor assesses whether you qualify for a half-day or full-day course to get your trailer driving license. If you follow the instructor's advice after the driving test, you will receive exam guarantee. This means that if you fail unexpectedly, we will cover the cost of one re-examination. The cost of the driving test is only €65 excluding VAT.

What does the practical exam look like?

The practical exam for the BE driver's license consists of several sections that test your driving skills and vehicle control. You will be asked to perform several special maneuvers, including reversing and parking with a heavy trailer. In addition, you will be assessed on your traffic insight and ability to react to traffic situations.

What is the success rate of Rijschool Zomer?

What is the average length of a trailer driving lesson?

A driving lesson takes about 60 minutes, but we plan them one after the other. So you can get your trailer license in just 1 day!

Yes, this is possible. We have both a switch car and an automatic lesson car for getting your trailer license.

Can I also take driving lessons in another language?

Yes, we have Dutch-, English- and Spanish-speaking WRM-certified instructors.

Can I also take driving lessons in the evenings and weekends?

Yes, we also give driving lessons in the evenings and on Saturdays.

What cars do you teach in?

Our teaching cars are a Volkswagen Golf (2022) and Volkswagen Polo (2022).

Where will I be picked up?

Students can be picked up and dropped off at home.
